| Enviro-Purchasing:
Business built on green. |
Every business, government
agency, institution, and school has purchasing power-the power
to make choices among a range of available goods and services.
Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) ensures that environmental
considerations are included in purchasing decisions along with
traditional factors, such as product price and performance (Source:
USEPA).
In additional to helping the environment and quality of life,
EPP can also help your organization: (1) Save money,
(2) avoid liability, (3) increase morale, (4) increase productivity.
|
PURCHASING IS CONSUMPTION
- When a business, government, school, college or
institution purchases goods or services, it consumes-and
which has other impacts on-natural resources around
the planet.
- Using the goods and services often leads to purchasing
and consuming of further resources.
|
EPP IS PLANNING YOUR COMSUMPTION
- Environmentally Preferable Purchasing allows the
purchaser and user of products and services to analyze
and plan consumption of and other effects on natural
resources, by:
- Choosing products which will last over those which
need to be replaced or repaired frequently
- Choosing products which will minimize the need for
other resources when in use Choosing products which
do not contain substances which are harmful to humans
or other life
- Choosing products which do not off-gas volatile
organic compounds, which can cause minor to severe
physical reactions in many individuals
