Club Guidelines
PURPOSE
The purpose of the club shall be to learn and use organic gardening techniques and to provide members of the Rutgers University Community with space and means to grow organic produce for recreation, enjoyment, research, and education.
GENERAL RULES AND GUIDELINES
- All members must participate in at least one committee. This is
a condition of club membership.
- Gardens should be kept clean and free from weeds-this includes
adjacent paths. Do not put rocks or trash in paths or common areas. Rocks are to be transported to the designated area for
dumping.
- No unsightly structures will be allowed.
Organic garden refuse should be placed in the designated compost
& dump areas. Please refrain from putting any waste materials in
the fringe areas.
- For the benefit of everyone involved, please harvest your crops
once they are mature. If you do not feel you can use all of
them, there are many people who could. Please let the executive
committee know if you have excess crops.
- Please make every effort to see that pets and other visitors
respect the garden plots and paths.
- No inorganic fertilizers or pesticides are to be used.
- You are responsible for notifying the executive committee of any
change in your address or telephone number.
- All garden must be cleaned out by November 1 of each year.
Remove all trellises, stakes, cages, dead plants, etc.
- All gardens must be begun by June 1 of each year. Plots with no
activity by these dates may be assigned to persons on the waiting
list for plots.
- Please recoil the hose neatly after each use.
- If you carry trash in, pack it out!
- Only tools marked COGC were purchased by the club. All other
tools are the property of members who are kind enough to leave
them for others to use. If you break or lose a tool, you are
honor bound to fix or replace it.
COMMITTEES
The Cook Organic Garden Club shall be managed by a cooperative
system of committees. Duties are as follows:
- Executive Committee
Schedules meetings, collects dues and
deposits, is responsible for all club finances and budget,
membership records, plot assignments, official communications,
oversight of other committees. Enforces rules and by-laws,
organizes work parties, social activities, food, and
entertainment.
- Path & Grounds Committee: Keeps site clean of litter, controls
weeds on vacant and abandoned plots. Maintains path & common
areas, roadway, and site entrance. Tracks specific plots which
appear neglected, report to Executive Committee for investigation
and action.
- Tools and Maintenance Committee: Responsible for shed, tools,
wheelbarrows, machinery & equipment. Responsible for repairing
and extending the hose system and walking the water line to check
for leaks. Recommends purchases as necessary.
- Publications, Education, and Research Committee: Responsible for
Newsletter, advertising, and public relations, organizing
workshops, submitting educational articles to club newsletter,
provide gardening advice and references, responsible for all
educational activities and resources. Facilitates communication
with members by means of posting signs

Composting Committee: Maintains compost bins, shreds plant
material, contacts farm manager for manure delivery. Makes
contacts for compost, mulch and other soil amendments and organic
fertilizers.
- Food for the Homeless: Coordinates collection and distribution of produce for those in need.
