NJ953
 

NJ953 is an all-male hybrid.

Yield: NJ953 out yields Jersey Giant in our trials conducted in New Jersey, a benchmark of Rutgers Asparagus Program, on average by 15%.

Disease resistance: Highly resistant to rust and tolerant to Fusarium crown and root rot.

Spear:

General quality: Very good
Size: Approximately 30% jumbo, 70% medium.
Form: Cylindrical and highly uniform.
Tip: tapering and tight.
Node scale: tight.

Color:

Stem: light green
Node bracts: pale green with purple tint

NJ977

NJ977 is an all-male hybrid.

Yield: Yields of NJ977 are comparable to that of Jersey Giant

Disease resistance: Highly resistant to rust and tolerant to Fusarium crown and root rot.

Spear:

General quality: Very good
Size: Approximately 35% jumbo, 65% medium.
Form: Cylindrical and highly uniform.
Tip: tapering and very tight.
Node scale: very tight.

Color:

Stem: light green
Node bracts: pale green with purple tint

NJ1112
 

NJ1112 is an all-male hybrid.

Yield: NJ1112 produces very high yield. It out yields Jersey Giant in our trials in New Jersey, a benchmark of Rutgers Asparagus Program, on average by 30%.

Disease resistance: Highly resistant to rust and tolerant to Fusarium crown and root rot.

Size: Approximately 50% jumbo, 50% medium.
Form: Cylindrical and uniform.
Tip: tapering and tight.
Node scale: tight.

NJ1113
 

NJ1113 is an all-male hybrid.

Yield: In our trials in New Jersey NJ1113 out yields Jersey Giant, a benchmark of Rutgers Asparagus Program, on average by 30%.

Size: Approximately 50% jumbo, 50% medium.
Form: Cylindrical and uniform.
Tip: tapering and tight.

NJ1192
 

NJ1192 is a purple hybrid. The hybrids consist of approximatelt 87% males

Yield: NJ1192 out yields Purple Passion, a popular commerical hybrid, by approximately 25%.

Disease resistance: Highly resistant to rust and tolerant to Fusarium crown and root rot.

Cold tolerance: It is very cold tolerant. Winter plantloss is not a problem.

General quality: Good
Size: Approximately 45% jumbo, 55% medium.
Form: Cylindrical.
Tip: tapering and tight.
Node scale: tight.

Color:
Stem:Lighter purple than Purple Passion
Node bracts: Purple

The notable features of NJ1112 and NJ1113 are:
1) very high yielding and
2) high percentage of large spears

 

Golden green asparagus

 

Typically, the tip, bracts, and base of a green asparagus spear are purplish.The ntensity of the purple tint varies with hybrid and growing condition. We have now develop a series of hybrids that are absent of any purple tint. Hybrid NJ1154 is one of these hybrids.
