Junior/Senior Colloquia involve various types of student projects. Below is a list of some of the projects that have been undertaken in recent semesters in this colloquium. In some cases there may be a link to an abstract of the project.

  • Comparison of mussel colonization on sides of a jetty adjacent to different bodies of water
  • The effect of plastic litter on the density of the polychaete worm Nereis virens
  • The effects of a groin field on the phytoplankton community
  • Determination of growth of the Cocos nucifera on the shore in a non-indigenous temperature zone
  • Examination of the effects of driftwood on the population of the sand flea Orchestia agilis
  • Evaluating plant use of two sediment types on an estuarine beach
  • Investigation of avifauna distribution within altered dune communities of Bay Head, New Jersey
  • The rigidity of plastic containers and their susceptibility to movement by waves
  • The effects of two differently-designed high-rise buildings on wind flow patterns at Atlantic City, NJ
  • The interaction between nourished beach sediments and the design and location of functioning groins
  • Sedimentary structure of an artificially nourished beach
  • The effect of human interactions on vegetative diversity in a backdune environment
  • Notched stone groins versus non-notched stone groins: a study of longshore sediment transport around hard structures
  • The viability of a low-cost, small-scale shore protection structure on Barnegat Bay, Island Beach State Park, NJ
  • Inventory of a dilapidated groin field along an estuarine shoreline
  • Study of the hydro-geomorphological significance of soil water repellency in coastal dunes
