Microorganisms are the smallest living things and ubiquitous in the biosphere. They are the oldest forms of life on earth, and control many of the essential life processes on earth.

The microbiology curriculum emphasizes the enormous diversity of microbial life and microbial processes. The curriculum covers the fundamentals of microbial diversity, physiology and genetics, and examines the diverse roles of microorganisms in their natural and managed habitats and their effects on human and environmental health.

The curriculum prepares students for positions in industries, government and for graduate/professional study in life sciences.
