Bio All too often there is a divide between what we know from science and our daily actions. Important examples include the skeptical response to global climate change, the 15 billion cigarettes smoked every day, and fears of immunization stalling efforts at disease eradication. On the other hand, efforts to promote the use of scientific information can be insensitive to the realities of daily life. Andrew Pleasant is working to engage individuals with science in order to improve the quality of life, human health, and the environment. His work to increase the access, use, and integration of scientific information requires rethinking existing and forging new connections between scientific information, individuals, and institutions. Currently an assistant professor at Rutgers University, Andrew applies research to practice in the design, implementation, and evaluation of environmental, health, and science communication efforts. He has published a number of peer-reviewed journal articles and has a decade of experience at daily newspapers in the United States. Current and past clients include the World Health Organization, World Education, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Aldo Leopold Leadership Program, Cornell Genomics Initiative, Brown University's Center for Environmental Studies, and the Pew Fellows Program for Marine Conservation.
