Forest Certification

Forest certification offers a market-based, rather that a regulatory way to promote responsible forestry practices. To gain certification, the forestry operation must pass an evaluation by a qualified independent auditor. Forest certification ensures minimal environmental impacts, and the efficient and appropriate use of wood. Wood products from these forests are then labeled as such; thus, consumers can buy products from this well-managed wood source. Companies apply voluntarily; no government is involved.
