Achillea sp.
(ah-KILL-ee-a)
Common Name: Yarrow
Family: Compositae
Native to Europe, temperate Asia, with a handful from North America. Small flowers on flat heads. The wild Yarrow is white, and is found in fields. Yarrow of commerce is yellow, and the rounder the heads, the better the quality.
Many hybrid yarrows have been produced by prudent breeding, and many colors are now available, including purple, cerise, pink, white, and peach.
Yarrow can be easily dried, especially the yellow wild types.
