Leptospermum scoparium
(lep-to-SPER-mum sco-PA-ree-um)
Common Name: Tea Tree, Leptospermum
Family: Myrtaceae
Not related to 'tea', the Tea Tree is from, and has been extensively bred as shrubs in New Zealand. A number of beautiful cultivars were developed in California in the mid 1950's, and these are used as cut flowers. The sweetly-scented tiny rose-like flowers are from 1/4 to 1/2 inch in diameter, and range from white or light pink to rose or deep rose red. Stems are rather woody and leaves are tiny and ovate.
