Today's floral designs in general incorporate the simplicity
of Oriental line arrangements and the massed arrangements of European
designs. Today's arrangements are, for the most part, called line-mass
arrangements. There is really no sharp separation between Line
Arrangements/Mass Arrangements, and Line-Mass Arrangements.
Below are examples of Line-Mass arrangements. Notice that, although
flowers are massed to a certain extent, you are able to pick out
specific lines which form the basis of the design.

Line-Mass arrangements need not stand upright. An arrangement may be placed
in a horizontal orientation as in the arrangement below and to the right. Notice
that, although the colors used break the rules of compatability and harmony,
the arrangement attracts attention, due to the use of bright red, orchid, and
fuchsia.
Many other configurations of form are also used by florists in constructing
Line-Mass arrangements.
