Setting
up your AESOP email using Mozilla Thunderbird
Step 1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird and click TOOLS, then ACCOUNT SETTINGS...
Step 2. Click on ADD ACCOUNT... If you are simply updating your existing settings, Skip ahead to Step 9.

Step 3: Choose EMAIL ACCOUNT and click NEXT> to continue.

Step 4: Enter your name and email address and click NEXT> to continue.

Step 5: Choose either POP3 (default) or IMAP. POP3 downloads the messages to your PC and deletes them from the server. This is the standard configuration for users with one PC in one office. If you have a reason to want to keep messages on the server, for instance if you have multiple offices and check mail from multiple computers, you may want to choose IMAP. Consult your local computer support personnel for details.

Step 6: Enter your AESOP username in both fields and click NEXT> to continue.

Step 7: Enter a name to refer to this account. The default should be fine. Click NEXT> to continue.

Step 8: Ensure information is correct and hit FINISH to continue.
Step 9 : Click on SERVER SETTINGS on the left hand side. On the right, check the radio button next to SSL. This should change the PORT to 995 (POP3) or 993 (IMAP). Make sure the server name is pop.aesop.rutgers.edu (for POP3) or imap.aesop.rutgers.edu (for IMAP).

Step 10. On the left hand side, click OUTGOING SERVER (SMTP), and, on the right hand side, highlight mail.aesop.rutgers.edu and click EDIT.

Step 11. Check the box for USE NAME AND PASSWORD, enter your username in the box, select the radio button next to SSL, and change the port to 465 if not already changed. Make sure the server name says mail.aesop.rutgers.edu.
