Setting up an Automatic Reply Message

To set up an automatic reply to everyone that sends you a mail message while you are on vacation, a business trip, etc., we now have an easy solution for you. Simply telnet to AESOP, choose Automatic Email Reply Management, put in the date you are returning and other pertinent information. When you come back from your vacation, business trip, etc., you can simply telnet to AESOP to turn off your automatic reply.

First, telnet or SSH to AESOP. This can be done easily on any windows PC by clicking the START button, choosing RUN, and typing "telnet aesop.rutgers.edu" without the quotes. Vista users will have to click the START button, then ALL PROGRAMS, then ACCESSORIES, then RUN. Furthermore, Microsoft Telnet is NOT tuned on by default, so you'll have to turn it on. Consult your IT personnel for information about turning that feature on. Or, if you have another telnet/SSH program installed on your computer (like QVT, SSH, Netterm, Putty, etc) you can use that instead. When prompted, (login with your AESOP username and password). If you don't know how to do that, please contact Karl Lindauer at klindauer@aesop.rutgers.edu or 732/932-1100 x8416.

If you get a MIDAS menu when you login, press choice 1: Automatic Email Reply Management (Away Message).

If you get a CAESAR or RCEN menu when you login, choose Electronic Mail. On your next menu you can choose Automatic Email Reply Management (Away Message).

Once you are in this program, just answer a few questions and the program will automatically set up an automatic reply. When you come back from vacation, your professional workshop, your business trip, etc., just go back to the Automatic Email Reply Management program to turn it off.
