ACADEMIC HONESTY- Academic honesty is an absolute requirement for students taking Molecular Genetics. Dishonesty will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the full extend available to the instructor. Academic dishonesty is defined as cheating on exams, quizzes and assignments, or plagiarism. The Rutgers University Academic Integrity Policy can be found at http://a cademicintegrity.rutgers.edu/integrity.shtml. It is every student's responsibility to familiarize themselves with the policy and to adhere to it. To help students to familiarize themselves with the policy a representative from the Office of Student Judicial Affairs will give a 35 min presentation. Attendance at the presentation is mandatory. A recent revision gives faculty the authority to adjudicate Level I and Level II violations within the dictates of the policy. < /span> The instructor goes to great lengths to identify and obtain information about students engaging in academic dishonesty. Students contemplating the theft of a few points should consider the severe repercussions of getting caught. Do you feel lucky today?
ATTENDANCE- Is voluntary, but lecture attendance is highly recommended and encouraged.
GRADING- 3 common hourly exams each valued at 25% of the final grade. 10% of the final grade will consist of an unspecific number of class and homework assignments. The remaining 15% of the final grade will be based on class participation using the iClicker system. For students seeking to improve their grade an optional term paper assignment is available.  Details can be found at the Supplementary Reading link..
Exam Format- Hourly exams are a combination of multiple choice and essay format
Exam grading and grievance policy- Although the best possible effort is made to grade exams accurately, mistakes will invariably occur.  Please review graded exams carefully and report errors in writing to Dr. Leustek by email or paper mail.  A photocopy of your exam will be consulted to make a judgment on the error and a response will be given in writing by email.  Please DO NOT seek a response to a grading question during c lass or by chance encounter
Posting of Exam and final grades- Your record in Molecular Genetics can be accessed from the On-line Grading System at http://gradebook.rutgers.edu
MAKE-UP EXAMS- Taking an exam at an alternate time is possible if prearranged with the instructor. Make-up of exams and assignments is only possible if a documented and dated reason for missing class is presented. Examples include a Dean’s letter, a physician’s letter, a police incident report or other official document explaining why you were unable to attend class. Contact information of the entity providing the documentation must be included. If a valid excuse is provided the missed exam will be made up at the discretion of the instructor with either another exam, a work assignment, or by having the final exam gra de serve in lieu the missed exam.
