Research Interests
Research interests have recently been concentrated in the general area of engineering greenhouse systems and environments. Most activity has been focused on energy conservation and alternative sources of energy for heating greenhouses including solar, industrial waste heat and cogeneration. Also there has been additional activity leading to the design of quarantine and containment facilities as well as insect exclusion for commercial greenhouse operations, particularly in hot climates.
Current activity is focused primarily on efforts on applied research, development and demonstration of advanced environmental control strategies.

Dr. Mears first joined the Agricultural Engineering Department in 1958, later rejoined it in 1965, was promoted to Professor II in 1984 and Professor Emeritus in 2008'
