Research Interests

The overall goal is to develop for the horticultural industry virus-free (VF) cultivars from our Lilium longiflorum selections and from crosses made between longiflorum and Asiatic, oriental, trumpet and species lilies. The progeny have white and pigmented flowers and produce plants short in height, have thick stems, high flower count and variable leaf forms. Another objective is to develop cultivars which produce flowering plants from tissue culture seedlings in 5 to 12 months and from virus free bulbs of these crosses in 3 months. Selected cultivars are being patented and will be sold by the Rutges spin-off company, Jersey Flora, Inc.
