Research Interests
My main research objectives include biodiversity, evolution and ecology of endophytic and epiphytic fungi of plants. Currently my research focuses on:
- Understanding the mechanisms of dissemination of the clavicipitaceous endophytes of grasses with emphasis on characterization of epiphyllous conidia of Neotyphodium in horizontal transmission of the fungus from plant to plant.
- Examining the succession of pathogenic, endophytic and epiphytic fungi of cranberry, determining the correlation between these fungi and polyphenolic constituents of cranberry, and examining the potential role of the chemical components as plant protection agents during different phases of flower and fruit development.
- Isolating and characterizing endophytic and epiphytic fungi from diverse environments as producers of secondary metabolites with potential pharmaceutical and industrial use.
