Research Interests

The study of the biosynthetic properties of cell organelles, specially the study of chloroplast development and the function of the nucleo-cytoplasmic system during the process. Presently the work in my laboratory is focused on the study of chloroplast functions and their regulation. We are studying the localization, expression and characterization of some genes associated with carbon metabolism. This includes the fructose 1,6 bisphosphatase isozymes and citrate synthase, the mitochondrial enzyme. The long-range goal of our studies is to gain understanding of how the function and development of the chloroplast is coordinated with other cellular functions, particularly carbon fixation and sugar phosphate metabolism in plant cells.
